Word for the Day - Dec 20

I cried out to the LORD in my great trouble, and he answered me. I called to you from the world of the dead, and LORD, you heard me!
     - Jonah 2:2

When I had lost all hope, I turned my thoughts once more to the LORD. And my earnest prayer went out to you in your holy Temple.
     - Jonah 2:7

O people, the LORD has already told you what is good, and this is what he requires: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.
     - Micah 6:8

The LORD is slow to get angry, but his power is great, and he never lets the guilty go unpunished. He displays his power in the whirlwind and the storm. The billowing clouds are the dust beneath his feet.
     - Nahum 1:3

The LORD is good. When trouble comes, he is a strong refuge. And he knows everyone who trusts in him.
     - Nahum 1:7

Look at the nations and be amazed! Watch and be astounded at what I will do! For I am doing something in your own day, something you wouldn’t believe even if someone told you about it.
     - Habakkuk 1:5

I have heard all about you, LORD, and I am filled with awe by the amazing things you have done. In this time of our deep need, begin again to help us, as you did in years gone by. Show us your power to save us. And in your anger, remember your mercy.
     - Habakkuk 3:2

Gather together and pray, you shameless nation. Gather while there is still time, before judgment begins and your opportunity is blown away like chaff. Act now, before the fierce fury of the LORD falls and the terrible day of the LORD’s anger begins. Beg the LORD to save you – all you who are humble, all you who uphold justice. Walk humbly and do what is right. Perhaps even yet the LORD will protect you from his anger on that day of destruction.
     - Zephaniah 2:1-3

For the LORD your God has arrived to live among you. He is a mighty savior. He will rejoice over you with great gladness.. With his love, he will calm all your fears. He will exult you by singing a happy song.
     - Zephaniah 3:17

Why are you living in luxurious houses while my house lies in ruins?
     - Haggai 1:4

  1. Hi Andie, my name is Sandra. I read several blogs on religion and prayer and I've i feel like I've ended up here once before. I ran across this prayer exchange website and I haven't had the chance to ask my Church what their stance is on it.

I'm a bit confused, I think that there are some benefits to a site like this but some Christians might find it questionable.

    The website is http://www.prayermarket.com/.

If you're looking for a topic to blog about, I would be curious to hear your thoughts and know what your stance is on this type of prayer service.

I have your blog in my feed reader so i'll check back, God bless

  2. Sandra,

I took a brief tour of the website and... yeah. While I am all for prayer and getting the Body mobilized in prayer for each other and the world, this set up makes me uneasy. I have to be fair in saying here that I did not really get in to it in depth so I could be completely off base, however, the idea of the "prayer tokens" really sits uneasily in my stomach (slippery slope to the practice of buying "favors" from the church...?) hmmm... I admit I was also put off a bit by the abundance of "God, let the Packers win their game this week" kind of prayers... (I am not a Packers fan, so I'm totally on the other side of that particular prayer! ha ha ha) Seriously, though, I think this encourages the "genie" or "Santa Claus" mindsets of prayer. "God, could you please....?" "God, may I have...?"

So... my initial response there. :) not very helpful I'm sure! I would love to hear what your church has to say about it. Please check back in here and let me know if/when you talk to them. I believe you've definitely hit on something blogworthy here and I think that I'll be writing about this again in the near future. Thank you for bringing it to my attention!!! :)

    Merry Christmas!
